Management Support to Private Sector Development

Background

Poverty Reduction policies and strategies are not delivering adequately on the planned poverty outcomes. One of the major causes of this is that there has been and still remains inadequate capacities of relevant institutions, including Government and implementing partners.

The Government of Uganda lacks the capacity to effectively monitor the implementation of its various strategies geared towards the achievement of MDG targets.

Development objectives,

The overall development goal is to enhance the capacity of the Aid Liaison Department to effectively manage the various components of the Poverty Reduction Programme. The second objective is to enhance the capacity of selected implementing partners to efficiently perform their role as service providers to local communities. This will enhance their sustainability in a competitive market.

Activities & expected results

The project coordinates and manages the three components of the Poverty Reduction Programme, i.e. private sector development, energy and environment and the MDGs component.
The project also provides capacity development services to selected implementing partners under the Poverty Reduction Programme, i.e. the Private Sector Development Companies.
The expected results are increased performance and sustainability of the implementing partners.

Implementation phase
The project currently provides capacity building services to the selected implementing partners, the Private Sector Development Companies.
