The Millennium Villages Project, implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Earth Institute of Columbia University in New York and other development agencies, is a new bottom-up approach to lift developing country villages out of the poverty trap that afflicts more than a billion people worldwide. The project works with local communities and governments to apply a proven holistic package of interventions to help villages get out of extreme poverty & meet the Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs).
In Uganda, the project started in Isingiro District, SW Uganda. In its integrated and holistic approach to development, the project is looking for competent Ugandan nationals to work as Enterprise facilitator.
General skills required for the position
A person with initiative and able to work under minimal supervision with well developed skills at working independently
Strong ability in handling multiple tasks simultaneously; and deliver results against key targets
Demonstrated ability to work with and mobilize communities to implement development projects.
Good communication and interpersonal skills; and a strong team player
Flexible, reliable, culturally sensitive and able to work long hours under pressure
Fluency in the local language is an added advantage
Proficiency in use of computer packages appropriate for report writing and simple data analysis.
Ability to ride a motorcycle is a necessity
Qualification and experience: -
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in business administration, management, marketing, entrepreneur development, or related field. At least a 3 year strong experience in using community enterprise development methodologies, have demonstrated skills in business management, and experience in entrepreneurship development training. Skills in Market chains analysis and development are critical for the position.
Duties and responsibilities
Support business and microfinance programs in the community
Mobilize communities into producer groups and organize training activities
Support enterprises with business development services
Produce timely field implementation reports
Carry out other relevant activities as assigned by the supervisor.
